Experimenting With Materials

This week I have been referring back to my weave samples and trying to include some of those qualities in order for my work to come together in a collection aspect. What I found was really crucial in my work was the colour palette, therefore gathered up the same yarns I used on the loom and have been hand stitching with them.

I have enjoyed using acetate to stitch on as it helps to keep the focus on the stitches and draws attention to shape, which is now what I'm mostly focussing on in my work with reference to Blackpool images. Furthermore I have always enjoyed embellishment so I have been embroidering with small beads to give my work a bit more character. I think what works well in these pieces compared to just my mohair samples is that the lines are more sensitive and the acetate enables attention to colour. To develop I would like to combine these shapes and textures on one longer piece of acetate. I especially enjoyed using the white paper yarn as it gives a unique texture and curls itself, creating a comparison between the materials.
