Two Tutor Crit | Bradford

The two tutor crit this week encouraged me to prepare presenting my work and the importance of explaining the journey and outcomes throughout the 4 week unit.
During the past week, I have achieved a range of different outcomes in my knitted samples, communicating trapped movement with colour, control, and changing elements through the structure of fabric. I have enjoyed knitting this collection as I have developed my skills on the Dubied and tried new techniques such as gullioche, trellis, and used the lilliput to weave through holes.

Each sample in my collection has different qualities which relate back to my visual research, however  to improve my collection as a whole I should have combined some techniques in the same sample. Due to the different shades of grey used it feels although the collection does not flow as it should.

Above: Chosen sample for Bradford Textiles | Live brief

I chose the above sample in response to the Bradford Textiles brief as a knitted fabric for fashion. I picked this sample to put forward as I feel it is the strongest design that communicates my concept, with the 3D elements adding movement, and small hints of green and orange communicating how colour can have certain connotations.

In my feedback from the two tutor crit I was encouraged to develop my samples further by playing around with structure, make knits 3D and make them out of control. Moving my ideas forward in a fashion context think about "boundaries"on a garment and how/where it would sit on the body. I knitted this collection on a 7 Gauge but feedback encouraged me to not limit myself to one machine and try different weights of yarn/needle size. In order to add more colour into my collection I could have tried alternative ways such as dipping ends in paint and heavy embellishment with beads.
