Placement & Composition

The brief for this drawing day was all based around placement & composition. We drew a wide range of pairs of shoes using media such as pencil and designer gouache.

At the beginning of the session we were introduced to a range of artists that worked in an interesting way using compostion and placement.
Reflecting on this activity I enojoyed adapting my drawing style.  I made connections with the artist Lisa Milroy who's work inspired me to work in a delicate and repetitive way. I edited and selected ideas by keeping my painting very simplistic, creating quite a linear drawing using vermillion designer gouache.

During this task I made several self discoveries about the way i enjoy working; firstly I like to work in quite a small scale, therefore I painted the whole shoe instead of enlarging into sections, and secondly I prefer to work minimal, consisting of linear outlines and adding smaller marks and shading.

I found the first task of drawing with our eyes closed quite challanging as I realised that I have always drawn with my eyes open constantly reffering to the object I was drawing. Although I struggled to keep my eyes closed for the whole 5 minutes each time, I like the outcome of my drawings; the overlapping lines and lines of different intensity give a sketchy unique feel. To develop these drawings further I would enjoy using ink & stick, and would also work of drawing in the right scale to the object, which will hopefully develop with practice!
