This week I found it much easier to manage my time and work by using the studio as much as I could, however at times I still struggled to think of ideas and how to compose stitch in some samples. To help me develop ideas I reffered back to my drawings, connecting practical and research work.
I discovered that my using the tailor tacking foot and tufting machine were the techniques that helped move my work forward, as they give texture and body that add detail to my samples. I have noticed that I pay a lot of attention to lines within my work. This sample was made on the tufter. The most successful lines are the thinner black ones that I cut down to leave a delicate dotted effect. However I do feel the composition of this sample is unsuccessful as its too linear with no inspiration behind the layout.
Critically I feel this is my most unsucessful sample. It was too rushed, and although it was inspired by my drawing of shoes, I didnt concentrate on composition and the type of stitch that would have complimented the loose floating wool. The most successful parts of this sample are the fabric choice as the black silk organza compliments the texture of the wool and the delicate running stitch.
