Margo Selby

Margo Selby creates an overall material; scarves, rugs, bed linen, wallpaper etc. She studied at Chelsea college of art and then the RCA. Her first collection was launched in 2003 and has rapidly become recognised, winning numerous art & crafts awards.

"Over the last decade Margo Selby has been developing fabric constructions and textures on handlooms, which are used for luxury textile products and projects."

What interested me in Margo Selbys designs were the shape and composition within her weaves.  She uses a range of bold colours and patterns which are eye catching to the viewer, while still containing a sense of simplicity. Furthermore her work consists of a lot of circular shapes as a decorative element; this releates to my primary research of tubes and the typical underground circular logo. The way Margo Selby composes the circles in her work encouraged me to think about composition in my weave and knit samples, attempting to place close together creating a patterned fabric.
