Live Brief | Fendi

Initially I had chosen David Koma as my brand for the live brief. I was drawn to his collections due to the bold yet feminine shapes and composition of colour. In my tutorial this week we discussed the brand, which we established is still upcoming, therefore it would be difficult to create a collection for. Resulting in this, I decided to go for a more established brand, Fendi.

Fendi is a premium brand and has been established since 1925, which is a fashion line that has revolutionised fur, leather and luxury style. Karl Lagerfeld is a major contributor to the brand and continues to design fur and women's collections.

Fendi is significant for bold colours, geometry and fur throughout collections and tones of yellow, black and off-white repeat from season to season. Their designs are typically blocky, paying attention to edges, lines and shapes, which almost communicate and artistic vibe. The Italian fashion line often gain visual inspiration from culture, fashion and architecture and ways it can be expressed.

I will be creating a collection of high fashion S/S knit samples for womenswear. I have been looking at both Bauhaus and previous collections to gain visual inspiration, and extracting elements to draw from.

I started to develop my own concept for Branding: clashing colour. From this I was looking at movement of colours, both bold and subtle shades, and how they are composed. In tutorial I was prompted to go back to looking at Fendi collections again and pay attention to colour proportions, as my concept was not reflecting the Brands style, it needed to become more blocky and geometric in order to reflect Fendi collections.
