I was especially inspired by Maharam's collabortive work. They collaborate with Paul Smith, producing woven fabrics with a unique sense of colour, consisting of bold shapes and stripes. Paul Smith gives a really distinctive feel with his design choices which is successful for communicating the brand. I liked these woven fabrics as theres a sense of energy and vibrancy through simple stripes yet bold colour choices.

Relating to my own practice, I have always enjoyed including softer yarns in my knits such as mohair, therefore I was especially drawn to the woven pieces that had elements of texture, especially in geometrical patterns. Furthermore I liked the contemporary muted colour palette in these fabrics.

This visit has encouraged me to think about Knit in an interior approach as well as fashion, and to perhaps research into knitted fabrics instead of just garments when conducting research.
The visits in New York have broadened my knowledge of the design industry, as I learnt there are so many areas to explore. I would really enjoy undertaking work experience in areas alternative to knit to gain insight into the professional world of design.
